Material Handler
GENERAL SUMMARY
This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for loading, unloading and moving materials and finished products within warehouse and pack orders to ensure timely, accurate delivery of customer requests.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (* = Essential Functions)
1. *Read work order or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
2. *Load and unload materials onto or form pallets, tubs, racks and shelves.
3. *Load materials into vehicles; inspect vehicles for proper shipping conditions.
4. *Unload materials from vehicles, inspect deliveries and shipments for accuracy and damage and prepare proper documents.
5. *Locate stock. Count, weigh and record number of units of material moved, handled, or shipped. Prep materials for shipment by palletizing, banding, wrapping and labeling shipments. Pick and package finished products per work orders.
6. *Enter data in SAP, update records and file documents, electronically and manually, and prepare/distribute reports, as required.
7. *Maintain clean area by sweeping or mopping. Comply with all departmental safety and sanitation requirements.
8. Convey materials to proper storage area. Rotate stock as needed. Optimize space utilization.
9. Operator industrial trucks or electric hoists to assist in loading or moving materials and products. Perform PM to lift equipment.
10. Maintain proper temperature for products.
11. Responsible for cycle counting program/inventory control.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Ability to read, write and speak English.
2. Ability to operate industrial trucks or electric hoists to assist in loading or moving materials.
3. Possess basic computer skills to navigate in email and data systems.
4. Knowledge of GMP, safety, sanitation and Hazardous Materials per DOT requirements.
5. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from drivers, other production-related departments (i.e. Customer Service) and co-workers in a tactful manner.
6. Ability to use a calculator to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, including conversions to metric weight.
7. These characteristics are normally acquired through a High School Diploma or GED with at least six months of related material handling experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment is a warehouse and includes frequent exposures to warm/cold and loud conditions, moving forklifts. Occasionally comes in contact with fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, extremely cold (freezer storage) or outdoor conditions. A company issued uniform is required to be worn along with required personal protective equipment at all times. This can include coveralls, dust mask, hearing protection, hair/beard net, safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes. Work may occur into and out of small rooms with air lock compliance to avoid interdepartmental contamination.
