You will be joining the Application team with colleagues from different nationalities and working in multiple different locations across the world.. GENERAL SUMMARY


This position is a supporting scientist role for the Global Expertise Centers (GEC) for Prepared
Foods and Pet Food. The GECs are responsible for deep understanding of both application categories
globally, development of suitable base formulations for local markets, training regional applications
labs and executing customer-specific projects. This is an entry level position and works under
general supervision. This position is primarily responsible for the development, understanding
and application of natural colors into Prepared Foods including ready meals, snacks, baked goods
and plant based meats and Pet Foods applications such as kibble, wet food and baked treats.
Travel is estimated at 10%.
 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Handles simple applications projects in a timely manner. Interacts with scientists internally
and other departments as needed in defining specific parameters for projects.
• Uses processing equipment under general supervision.
• Maintains safe working environment by practicing and coaching in established safety procedures.
• Conducts routine testing such as colorimetry and stability on finished food systems.
• Photograph food for presentations and reports.
• Works in the sample department as needed in filling sample requests and shipping
promptly.
• Develops and maintains all relevant information databases.
• Follows SOP’s for procedures and equipment
• Keeps accurate research notes and document in an electronic notebook.
• Write interim and final project reports for internal and customer use.
 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS


• BS or MS in Food Science or related field.
• Ability to distinguish colors in a wide variety of applications and media. Must have excellent
color vision. (Color Vision Testing Required.)
• Ability to conduct technical presentations internally, explaining the use of Oterra in Prepared
Foods applications.
• Can effectively cope with change and shift gears comfortably.
• Ability to read, collect data, analyze, and interpret technical information.

Ability to write and present reports and technical papers.
• Ability to apply principles of logical/scientific thinking to a wide range of problems.
• Ability to operate a variety of standard laboratory equipment and instrumentation (such
as food production equipment, pH meters, spectrophotometers, etc.).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate
with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment is required when
working in the laboratory. This includes a lab coat, and if necessary, safety glasses, dust mask or
gloves. When working in the applications pilot plant, a hair/beard net, safety glasses and safety
shoes are required and GLP guidelines must be followed.
 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk
and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 25
lbs. and occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. Use of hands to handle or touch objects, tools or
controls is frequently required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision,
depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is occasionally exposed to moving
mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
