You will be joining the R&D team with colleagues from different nationalities and working in multiple different locations across the world. We all chip in when and where it is needed, have a flat structure but high standards, enjoy a good laugh and a pragmatic and operational approach to supporting our agenda. What would your role look like?

This position works under limited supervision and is primarily responsible for the understanding and application of natural colors into food and beverage systems.  It provides technical support to internal and external customers for the purpose of supporting and providing growth for the company. 

 

Principal Duties And Responsibilities (* = Essential Functions)

  1. *Handles multifaceted applications projects in a timely manner.  Interacts with directly with customers and other departments as needed in defining specific parameters for projects.
  2. *Provides technical service to US-based customers advising on the uses of Oterra colors.
  3. *Provides in-person consultation and assistance to customers at both the laboratory and plant level.
  4. *Works closely with Account Managers to maintain existing sales, promotes sales growth with existing accounts by providing exceptional customer service.
  5. *Maintains safe working environment by practicing and coaching in established safety procedures.
  6. Creates customized technical presentations as needed for external and internal customers.
  7. Conducts routine testing such as colorimetry and stability on finished food systems.
  8. Photographs food and beverages for presentations.
  9. Develops and maintains all relevant information databases.
  10. Writes new and follows established SOP’s.
  11. Photographs food and beverages for presentations.
  12. Works in the sample department as needed.
  13. Develops and maintains all relevant information databases.
  14. Keeps accurate research notes and document in an electronic notebook.
  15. Write interim and final project reports for internal and customer use.

 

Who are we looking for?

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. MS in Food Science or related field, or BS with commensurate experience.
  2. Thorough understanding of food and beverage applications and processing in one or more application segments.
  3. Ability to read, write and speak English is a requirement for this position.
  4. Ability to distinguish colors in a wide variety of applications and media.  Must have excellent color vision.  (Color Vision Testing Required.)
  5. Ability to write and conduct technical presentations internally and externally, explaining the use of Oterra colors in food and beverage applications.
  6. Ability to read, collect data, analyze, and interpret technical information. 
  7. Ability to write and present reports and technical papers.
  8. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as percents, pppm and basic algebraic equations.
  9. Ability to apply principles of logical/scientific thinking to a wide range of problems, and to interpret and use nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, etc.). 
  10. Ability to operate a variety of standard laboratory equipment and instrumentation (such as blending equipment, pH meters, spectrophotometers, etc.).
  11. Possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs.  SAP experience is a plus.

 

 

Working Conditions

Working environment is generally favorable.  Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate with occasional exposure to cold temperatures.  Personal Protective Equipment is required when working in the laboratory.  This includes a lab coat, and if necessary, safety glasses, dust mask or gloves.  When working in the applications pilot plant, a hair/beard net, safety glasses and safety shoes are required and GLP guidelines must be followed.

 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear.  The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. and occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs.  Use of hands to handle or touch objects, tools or controls is frequently required.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
