At Oterra, food and health are at the heart of everything we do and every day over 400 million people eat a product with our colors in it. We believe that nature got it right the first time and as a leading manufacturer of colors from natural sources, we are here to make a difference for healthy living and sustainable agriculture. We need the brightest and most passionate people on board to succeed. Until 1 April 2021, Oterra was part of Chr. Hansen A/S, a Danish listed company. Want to join us?

The team for you to join

You will be joining the Innovation & Application team with colleagues from different nationalities and working in multiple locations around the world.

Oterra develops natural colors and functional food ingredients based on concentrates of natural fruits and vegetables, such as sweet potato, grape skin, carrot and beet. The products are mainly used for applications related to the food and beverage industry such as dairy and fruit preparations, confectionery, ice cream, ready meals and beverages. At the cutting edge of technology, we integrate science and nature to design natural dyes and high-performance functional plant extracts.

We are highly skilled, passionate about our work, enjoy a good laugh and a collaborative work environment. We love to learn and genuinely find our purpose and passion in continuously improving our organization.

What would your role look like?

The application center in Prades-le-Lez in France is tasked to ensure that our current and future colors meet our customer’s technical needs. We work together with the global and regional marketing and sales teams to understand current customer needs and how to respond to them, and with R&D to ensure products in developments will meet future requirements as well.

As an application scientist, your main mission consists in managing and developing the technical expertise in a specific application domain, such as confectionary, dairy, ice cream or beverages. For this you will need to:

  • Prioritize, plan, carry out and report laboratory and pilot experiments linked to specialist application domain.
  • Manage all internal and customer technical requests in the specialist application area.
  • Provide technical support to sales and customers, in particular key accounts, in the specialist application area and occasionally other application domain. This will involve occasional travel to visit customers
  • Maintain and develop application expertise.
  • Be an integral part of innovation by ensuring application expertise and customer view is included in all developments.

Who are we looking for?

You have a university degree in a technical subject matter, with minimum 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in the food industry, giving you a good grasp of food science: ingredients, formulation, processes and finished products. You are fluent in English and have a good command of French (or are willing to learn). As an accomplished scientist, you like laboratory work and can apply critical thinking to the work and its reporting. You know how to work autonomously, how to prioritize and can adapt your reporting style to your audience, but can also thrive as part of a team.

But even more than your skills, it’s your energy and intellectual curiosity which set you apart, help challenge the way we work and find new ways to respond to market needs.

What we offer you?

You will become part of an international team set in a dynamic and inspiring work environment. We offer you a great place to work, with the opportunity to be part of a global organization committed to supporting the business and our customers.

We offer you an unlimited contract, 37hours/week with RTT. We will also offer you Titres restaurant, Health Care and Prévoyance, CET, PEE and PERCO, as Comité d’entreprise benefits.
